Another sign that struck my fancy

Odd Shots

Found this set aside for the winter weather in the foyer of the little church we attended in the mountains.

AngryBirds

Have you ever played Angry Birds? I have not played the game Angry Birds. I have not seen the game Angry Birds played. I am barely cognizant that there is a game called Angry Birds and have no idea on what device it is played.

But if you want to see some Angry Birds, just take a look at these guys.

...or should I say these gulls?

Does Angry Birds have a sound track? I imagine it does. If they needed inspiration for it they could have come and listened to these guys---er, gulls. They came every day while we were in camp. Yelled for a while, then left.

They seemed to be yelling at this gentle bird, who also came, took a look around quietly, and stood with dignified stance taking in the whole screaming match.

I liked him.

Odd Shot--another sign

Another "What's so odd about that?" shot.

Clues began here at my other blog with Saturday's post.

You see, I don't do memes over there, but I do want you to go have a look.

The most revealing clue, in case you haven't guessed the connection by then, will be published Tuesday morning. Then all will be clear about this sign which stands adjacent.

Odd Sign Shot for Monday

I've been saving this odd sign shot for a lazy afternoon. This afternoon is about as lazy as any other. I will stay on this side of the fence no matter.

Anachronism

My Odd Shot for This Week

I usually have my Odd Shot up earlier on Sunday afternoon, but since it really is Odd Shots on Monday, you will have to give me some leeway here. And after all, I am the Odd Shots Boss.

We went on a picnic this afternoon and a drive and just got back a little bit ago. On the way towards Bickleton from Goldendale, after we passed through Cleveland this old farmsite against the backdrop of the wind turbines fascinated me.

Now, I must assume that you have not heard of these places--though each has its fame. Goldendale is a small town (population just under 4000) and the site of the largest telescope available for public viewing. You don't have to be a scientist to just go to the Goldendale Observatory and take your turn looking at stuff. Regular folks do it, Boy Scout troops, school classes, etc. Lots of fun exhibits aswell. Goldendale  also lays claim to the Maryhill Museum just down the road and Stonehenge.
Really. Look it up.

Bickleton is famous for its Bluebird Trail--birdhouses along the roads and lanes in the countryside around the town invite the colorful creatures to nest there. And colorful!!! Too quick to get a picture but the brilliance of the blue was darting here there and everywhere as we came through the area. Bickleton is also famous (if you are old enough to remember and from around here) for having its entire graduating class one year in the late eighties appear on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Yes, all seven of them. All boys. And Johnny invited them back to meet a class of seven young ladies from a school in Nebraska. Thirty years ago when we visited Bickleton the population sign at the edge of town said 90. The same sign is still there--or one just like it.

Cleveland boasts the oldest rodeo in the state-- and a carousel which is over 100 years old and completely refurbished at the rodeo grounds. The population is 20.

What did you find odd in your world this week?

Lock up your garbage--Odd Shot for Monday

Being country bumpkins, when we visit large cities we often find things that are definitely odd to us, though pretty normal to those who make their homes there. Like locking up your garbage.
Ours here--in very similar containers--might be bothered occasionally by a stray dog, but never so much that it would warrant these efforts. Things are much more casual in the country.  In fact, our garbage man will go behind the gate and get the can if we forget to put it out by the road. If we are to be gone over the week, we must remember to ask him not to do that, as the extra courtesy does not extend to returning the can to the back--and a garbage can  by the road for days on end is a definite security problem.

And yard waste?  yes, I understand in the suburbs to separate it from other stuff, but what yard waste is there in this concrete jungle?
What did you discover that was odd this week? You might find what I've been posting over at 365 during the last week to be odd. Some really fun stuff from our city jaunt.

Odd Shots--don't think I can make it that day, let's change it.

Flaunting the rules with an image not from my own camera.

So I was checking something on an online calendar the other day and it just didn't seem right. Took me some time to figure it out. Maybe it was time travel? I can imagine that would have to be worked out in short bits to start with--like a day or so.

I should have an Odd Shot up here now.

Maybe I will have one to post later. In the meantime, here is a linkie for yours.

I went back into my files to find this creepy character from a couple of summers ago. Close in--wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley if I was that size.

Odd Drops

I have been so busy that I almost posted an empty post so that there would be a place for other odd shotters to link, but I decided that this was an odd enough image. I am having fun with my moon roof.

Fish Count

Hubby pointed out the illusion of the fish in the tank in the hospital waiting room. Viewed straight on you would see four fish. Viewed directly from the end you would see that there are  four fish. Viewed at the corner, you see each fish twice--well, except for that one at the bottom which you barely see peeking around the corner on the left (and you probably missed if you came up with an answer of seven).

If you saw five, you probably missed the dark one in the bottom altogether, and the one circled in blue on the left hardly looks like a fish.

I think it's odd that the one circled in red seems to be in exactly the same pose from both angles.

How Many Fish?

Since I am posting this as an Odd Shot, you can probably assume that it is not as obvious as one might think.

Odd Shot Monday--Bicycle Patrol

I've seen police on motorcycles.
I've seen police on horseback.
I've seen police on foot.

I've seen police on bicycles before, too.
I jsut didn't expect to see one on a bicycle riding through the airport concourse.

Odd Shots Monday, here.

How Crazy Is This?

So does that mean Taco Bell has gone multicultural?

This is my Odd Shot for Monday April 4.

So, what's odd?

Well, first of all, I always like an odd angle on even the most mudane of subjects. But wait! There is actually a telephone directory at a pay phone? And almost odd these days--there is a pay phone.

Take a walk down memory road and watch an old detective show from the 70s. James Rockford from the Rockford Files, for example, is always popping into a phone booth and digging into his pocket for change.

Fast forward to the series Sherlock, (which we've only seen three episodes of on PBS here in the states--send more, send more!!) Sherlock Holmes set in current times. Sherlock is constantly texting his Watson.

What other odd shots are simply anachronisms? What other technology will go the way of the pay phone?

Odd Shot Monday

I was tempted to go get something for my Gard, but I needed some pparel.

Last week the Linky did not work. I will give it another try. Please leave a comment with your link as the links from the Linky are not showing. I will find another Linky service for future posts or figure out what is wrong with this one.

Sometimes an Odd Shot is an eyeball to eyeball view.

For some reason, the linkies are not showing up. Please leave a comment if you have an Odd Shot so that we can visit you.

Politics is Odd

...especially in the next town over.
I have no idea what this is about, but it does bring  interesting images to mind.

The link in the sidebar will take you to the Odd Shot Monday details.
Link your odd shot  here and visit other odd shotters.
There is always something strange about.

(That is a bedsheet BTW in case you can't tell on the small screen.)

Monday's Odd Shots

So you are asking yourself "What is odd about that? It is a [for lack of a more precise knowledge of the exact type of piece of equipment it is, I will say 'blue tractor']. Rather ordinary in the grand scheme of things."

Sometimes the oddness of the shot is in the story behind it. This 'blue tractor' is currently sitting behind our church hall, and has been used over the last week or so in the work of extending the parking lot. I stopped the other day to say "hi" and "how's the parking lot coming?" to my old friend Ernie, who has been a major part of the committee for getting the parking lot beyond the talk stage and into the do something phase.

Ernie has featured in Odd Shots before. It was he and his wife and brother who walked into a restaurant 150 miles from home and found me taking a picture of a ketchup bottle.

Well, Ernie and Fr. Jaime and I were talking, and Ernie proudly pointed to the shiny 'blue tractor' and said "That is my retirement toy. When I decided to retire, that's what I bought."

Does anyone else think that is odd?

My hubby got golf clubs (which he has never used.)

Maybe a shiny new 'blue tractor' is not so odd after all.

(BTW, I am doing much better, though I am not going to run any races for a while.) I'm not doing much better at the linkies, though. Since it scheduled to start in less than an hour, I will not tamper with it because I could make it worse. And I don't know how to remove the link to this post in the middle of this post without causing further problems.

Odd Shots Laid Low

This Odd Shot is the view on the way to the Emergency Room if it is painful to sit. I am glad that the passenger seat leans back. Today I can sit but am pretty wobbly on my feet. I have arranged for others to take some of my evening's responsibilities, and hope to be back in reasonable form tomorrow.

Odd Shots is anything odd visually, strange juxtapositions, anything that makes you want to say "How odd." Post your odd shot, link here before Tuesday 3 p.m. Pacific Time, and do link to us in your post.

Thanks, Odd Shotters.
